Jon Stewart Argues With Siri Over Foxconn (VIDEO)

What did it take to get your iPhone to you? The Fear Factory, says Jon Stewart.

Stewart took a stab Monday night at Foxconn, whose factories in China manufacture much of our Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Dell and Nintendo products — and whose

poor work conditions have pushed an incredible amount of employees to suicide.

Employees reported working up to “35 hours a day” for a measly 31 cents an hour, Stewart pointed out in a “Daily Show” segment. Any attempts to

unionizez could result in a 12-year prison sentence.

“What’s the difference?” Stewart asked. “I guess in prison you don’t have to work at the ‘bleep’ factory anymore.”

Suicide among factory workers has allegedly gotten so bad that management had to put up nets around the buildings to prevent jumpers.

“This is an abomination, and yet I am complicit,” Stewart admitted, noting that he owns an X-Box and an iPhone and often relies on Siri to get him to the

pharmacy for antibacterial gel.

And without such poor conditions and cheap labor costs, products would cost more for the consumer — an iPod would cost an estimated 23 percent more,

according to Stewart’s Siri alter-ego.

“I would expect that if we were working people to death, we would be getting at least 30 to 35 percent savings,” Stewart cracked dryly.
