I am sure you have come across videos of people batting their iPads, throwing them from heights and launching bowling balls on one, merely to check if it can withstand the impact. But G-Form has gone a few steps ahead al of these experiments. In order to prove just how tough their protective iPad cases are, they dropped an Apple tablet from the edge of space (Yes!, you heard me right!), and incredibly, it survived.
In the video, G-Form attaches the iPad and case to a weather balloon which carries it up to 100,000ft. the entire journey was also captured on camera on a video attached to the balloon. In some amazing shots from the video you can clearly see the iPad high above earth in space.
Once the altitude pressure bursts the balloon, the iPad come crashing back down to earth, landing on a hillside in Nevada, US. Using a locator device to find the iPad, the team discovers it to be in great condition and in full working order.
“We're happy that some of our customers' electronics have survived their testing of our Extreme products, but we don't encourage or recommend intentionally dangerous stunts.” – G-Form.
G-Form cases deform claim to deform on impact, and can absorb powerful impacts even with the glass side downward. They also claim to be far thicker than ordinary iPad cases and are said to have been made from hi-tech materials that deform on impact, with its outside are shrouded in military ballistic material and zipped up.
Earlier G-Form demonstration videos have shown them withstanding sharp blows from kung fu masters as well as high-speed impacts. The company also makes knee and elbow impact pads for cyclists.
The video seems to be amazing and surely makes you want to purchase one of these cases for your beloved iPad but, since the iPad is shown inside the case during the video, we are not sure if there really was an iPad in the case or if it actually survived, chances are that it could have been fake video. Guess you need to check for yourself before making the purchase.
