There have been some amazing catches in the cricketing world, but this one is definitely one of the best! This acrobatic catch took the combined effort and presence of mind of the Central Stags duo Bevan Small and Michael Mason. The acrobatic duo showed some amazing fielding skills which cost Brad Wilson (Northern Knights batsman) his wicket.
During a match between the Knights and the Stags at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval, in New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 competition, Wilson and Hamish Marshall were keeping their team on track for victory.
Feeling confident, Wilson launched Tarun Methula down the ground for what would have been a certain six. Bevan Small, however, had other ideas. This 12th man flung himself skyward to pluck the ball from the air. But he soon realized (mid-air) that he was being carried over the boundary rope. He had the presence of mind to palm the ball back into play and prevent a six.
Michael Mason, Small’s team-mate who had run along the boundary to assist his colleague, quickly realized the ball was still live, and that he could still catch the ball. He dived forward and pounced it before hitting the turf. The Knights still won the game but this catch is something that raised the bar of fielding for all.
You usually see these kinds of catches in matches – though they’re in cricket! In the Australian Open 2012 semifinal, the two giants of tennis, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were dueling...
