The first leg of Copa del Rey quarterfinal between Real Madrid and Barcelona went in the latter’s favor. Barcelona were their precise mechanical self and Real Madrid were theirs’ – there were dives, takedowns, complains – short of punching it was a crackling game of football!
With Cristiano Ronaldo scoring in the 11th minute, Real Madrid were comfortably in their lead. That was until Puyol scored the equalizer in the 49th minute, setting Barcelona up with his away goal. Presumably that didn’t sit too well with Real Madrid, and Pepe.
If you remember Pepe was previously banned for this kick against Getafe in 2009. In last night’s Copa del Rey, Pepe once again proves his expertise as he steps, quite deliberately, on Lionel Messi’s hand. But this time around, the referee didn’t see Pepe’s charming footwork and he got away scot free in the 67th minute of the game.
But the whole adage that Messi doesn’t get angry, he wins was proven to be true as he set up a goal for Abidal in the last quarter of the game that saw Barcelona going up with an away-lead of 2-1 in the first leg of El Clasico.
Watch Pepe do what he does best: hurt people while trying to play football.
