Joe Amendola is the lawyer of former Penn State assistant coach and accused child rapist Jerry Sandusky. Joe Amendola seems to be an interesting choice for a lawyer by Jerry Sandusky; Joe Amendola himself got a 17-year-old girl pregnant when he was 49. but, even if we ignore his personal life and strictly judge him on his professional decisions, he still seems to be a wrong choice for the case.

Amendola made some major mishaps when it came to taking decisions for his client Sandusky. The biggest mistake that Amendola made in the case was to let Sandusky give an interview to Bob Costas on NBC. Amendola’s strategy seemed to be simple: to make Sandusky appear slightly creepy, but ultimately a harmless grandfather through a national television interview. But we guess Amendola’s strategy didn’t really work out that well, instead, the infamous interview turned into some sort of a freak show, with Sandusky being the main attraction.
Following the disastrous (for Sandusky and Amendola at least), Amendola went on and waived Sandusky’s right to a preliminary hearing. The decision can probably be tagged as smart, because yesterday’s hearing would have resulted in a parade of accusers outlining the terrible things that Sandusky is alleged to have done to them. If that had happened, then Sandusky would have been further buried in the eyes of the public. By waiving his client’s right to the hearing, Amendola avoided the entire situation.

What he did following that was rather interesting. He held a press conference outside the courthouse and talked to anyone who was willing to listen for three hours. During that presser, he urged all those who believed some of the damning grand jury testimony against his client to dial “1-800-Reality.” The only problem? 1-800-Reality is a gay sex hotline.
Amendola continued his whirlwind media tour this morning on the Today Show, where the host, Ann Curry very bluntly asked him if he was competent for handling the case.
