Tupac Shakur death in 1996 took the world by storm, but his influence is still alive today.
On the 15 year anniversary of the publicly debated Tupac Shakur death in 1996, it’s tough not to think about what could have been for 2Pac if he were alive today. The legendary rapper would be 40 years old by now, and would probably still be going strong, topping charts and changing the world. On the anniversary of his death at the young age of 25, it’s important to remember that he already did.
It’s crazy to think, but it’s been 15 years ago today, September 13, since iconic rapper and poet Tupac Shakur died after being hit in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. He would have turned 40 years old in 2011 (his birthday being June 16, 1971) and would have undoubtedly dominated the entertainment industry for the last 15 years.
Even before his death at age 25, 2Pac was cast in several feature films, recorded a number of chart topping albums and today still remains the second highest selling Hip-Hop artist of all time. It’s scary to think of where he would be today at age 40, and what he would have accomplished along the way as he possessed a rare combination of creative talent and inspiration to better society.
2Pac continues to make news, whether it be a mysterious, new unreleased material, information about who shot him, or theorists who say his death was all a hoax and he’s still alive today. His music and writings will never go away, and neither will his philosophy on life and art – all of which has been put into the Tupac Amaru Shakur Collection that was released today on the fifteenth anniversary of his death by the Atlanta University Center (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library.
The collection includes song lyrics, poems, track lists, videos, manuscripts by Shakur family members and rap groups Dramacydal and the Young Outlawz, as well as fan mail, media clippings and other publicity materials.
