American Idol Crowns Final Winner With Surprise Performances

As “American Idol” airs for the last time ever, a range of emotions pours out from the show hosts, audience, judges and performers.

The series finale of “American Idol” came with a series of surprises for the audience.

As America crowned its final idol and Ryan Seacrest requested the lights be dimmed for the last time, winners from 15 seasons  returned to stage, along with fan favorites, for a spectacular performance.

The alums got together to perform a number of medleys, along with a heartfelt tribute to legendary pop star David Bowie.

Simon Cowell graced the stage with his presence, joining other original judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, as the crowd cheered on.

“I’ve done this 14 times and the atmosphere has never been more emotionally charged than it is tonight," Seacrest remarked.

The night got even more interesting as original co-host Brian Dunkleman, booted after one season, joined Seacrest on stage and Carrie Underwood performed a duet with Keith Urban.

The final winner turned out to be 25-year-old Trent Harmon, farm boy from Mississippi who had gone from being waiter at his family restaurant to being the final “American Idol.”
