Tens of thousands of people in Palestine are celebrating after a 23-year-old singer from a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip won the Arab Idol contest.
 
Fireworks lit up the sky over Gaza and the West Bank as Mohammed Assaf's victory was announced and chants of "Palestine! Palestine!" rang out. Large crowds had gathered in the streets to watch the finale of the singing competition on outdoor screens.
