Aretha Franklin has a lot more than her 70th birthday to celebrate: She’s reuniting with one of her musical mentors, Clive Davis, for an album.
At her swanky birthday party Saturday in New York, Franklin said she and Davis, the Sony Music exec who helped engineer her comeback in the 1980s, would be working on new music.
After Davis’ birthday next month, she said, “we’re going to sit together and decide what it is we’re going to record.”
Addressing fans including Diane Sawyer and the Rev. Al Sharpton, Franklin referred to the film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” about a man who gets younger as he ages. “Remember Benjamin Buttons?” she said. “Ree Ree Buttons!”
