BET Awards: Beyoncé And Kendrick Make History With ‘Freedom’

High-kicking the water with flames erupting behind them, Queen Bey and Kendrick Lamar brought down the house at the 2016 BET Awards.



This year’s opening performance of the BET Awards could easily qualify as one of the most memorable in the awards’ history.

Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar kicked off the night with a fiery act that began with Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech echoing throughout the venue.

As Queen Bey’s dancers dramatically emerged from the audience to join her onstage, the action began.

Stomping on water, the "Formation" singer chanted "Freedom, freedom, where are you? ‘Cause I need freedom too. I break chains all by myself. Won’t let my freedom rot in hell. I’ma keep running ‘cause a winner don’t quit on themselves."

And as if this wasn’t awesome enough, Kendrick Lamar emerged mid-performance, delivering his verse, with flames erupting in the backdrop.
