The blue steel look is back. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson brilliantly announced the upcoming release of a sequel to Zoolander by surprising the high fashion community with an appearance down the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week.
With suits designed by a legitimate fashion designer, Masion Valentino, Wilson dramatically dropped his coat as he left the runway.
I love that this hilarious movie of the early 2000s is now coming out with a new release, during a time when they can capitalize on social media. It’s not hard to imagine the potentially genius social campaigns they can do to promote the movie. Just imagine what it would be like if Derek Zoolander had his own Snapchat, or if the gas fight was captured on YouTube. How many selfies would it take for Hansel to compete with blue steel? Not to mention the gaffes (both intentional and unintentional) that Will Ferrell could pull to get some popular loops on Vine.
The movie is set to come out on February 12, 2016, and Twitter is buzzing with excitement.

Back in 2010, Stiller told MTV that they were working on script, so the movie has been in the works for a while. Apparently the death of co-creator Drake Sather was difficult for many and delayed the sequel’s progress.
He said, “In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed – it just happens so quickly. I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.”
