Las Vegas is home to countless spectacles that people thought that they would never see. It’s a city where you can see magic, Rod Stewart, and Evil Dead The Musical all in the same night (seriously, it’s a real thing). And now, you can enjoy the wonderful vocals of—Brittany Spears?
That’s right, former teen pop sensation Brittany Spears made her opening performance at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino this weekend, marking a new phase in the singer’s career. But is this the right move for Spears? In the past, Vegas has often been reserved for seasoned performers that wish to settle down in their career. Given that Spears appealed to younger audiences during her tenure (which has long-since passed), can she find an audience in Vegas?
Apparently so. According to Robin Leach, the "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" host who now covers Las Vegas nightlife, tickets to the VIP area are in big demand.
"The demographic of Vegas has been sliding in the last two years, much younger and the emphasis now is not so much on gaming," said Leach. The younger tourists are shopping, eating, drinking and going to nightclubs, he said.
Given that Spears’ fans have now grown up, many of them are now old enough to enjoy the amenities of Vegas. If, as Leach said, the demographic is indeed changing to a more youthful setting, it is likely that Spears will do well in the new environment.
But how exactly are her friends and fans responding to the change?
What do you think about Spears' new domain? Do you think that she can pull off a comeback? Why or why not? Sound off in the comment section below!
