Stephen Colbert highlighted his sister, Democratic House candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch, on his show. Though he did it in his usual funny way on the pretext of threatening to reveal secrets from her middle-school diary and letting the world know her girlhood nickname was ‘Lulu,’ the intent of promotion was pretty clear.
58-year-old Elizabeth Colbert Busch is a business-development director at Clemson University and is running for the South Carolina congressional seat vacated by Rep. Tim Scott's elevation to the Senate.
"Holy cow! My sister is running for Congress!" Colbert enthused on his show Colbert Report vowing not to use his show to promote her candidacy.
“No free airtime, Lulu! As a broadcast journalist I am obligated to maintain pure objectivity. It doesn’t matter that my sister is intelligent, hardworking, compassionate, and dedicated to the people of South Carolina. I will not be mentioning any of that on my show.’’
No if you don’t call that free air time, we don’t know what to call it!
Well, it sure pays having a sibling in a prime spot on TV if you just happen to be in politics!
