Cory Monteith, the star quarterback from the popular Fox musical comedy-drama series Glee, was found dead on Saturday at a hotel in Vancouver, Canada, according to police reports.
People were expecting things to get better for the star as he had just completed his rehab treatment on April 26, 2013 over substance abuse. Monteih, 31, had always been open about his struggles with alcohol and drug abuse. In his one of the most candid interviews to Parade magazine regarding his troubled past, the actor had said, “I’m lucky on so many counts—I’m lucky to be alive.”
His death comes as a shock to everyone who knew him including his Glee fans who will never be able to accept that the lead singer of New Directions, the determined championship game winning-captain of William McKinley High School's football team, is no more.
Cory Monteith’s role play, Finn Hudson enjoyed a rather special connection with his viewers. His character in the series was the only one who was not an underdog but instead was a charming heart throb with a beautiful cheerleader girlfriend with almost everything he could have wished for. And Finn Hudson gave it all away for the love of singing and performing, for his passion. He inspired his fans to go for things in life which make you happy and contented. Finn Hudson gave up his popularity and status for love and friendship.
The thing is, he was not perfect but he decided to be better in life. He was struggling and searching for his answers. His character was the only one who was unsure of what to become in life after graduation. But he didn’t lose hope and went on with anything that he thought was for the better. Also, to help out his brother with bullying problems Finn didn’t hesitate to don a Lady GaGa dress! No wonder Finn was loved. Monteith was loved.
And that is exactly what built that ‘special’ connection with Glee viewers. They found inspiration in Cory Monteith not just as a character out of a series but as a real person who was not ashamed of talking about his struggles. Monteith was not a trained singer but was a talented one. He was an excellent drummer, a quality that was mostly responsible for his selection as Finn Hudson.
He will be remembered and will be terribly missed. People are flooding Twitter with their reactions to his death. Everyone is just shocked and saddened over this tragic loss:
