Thanks to the fact that everyone owns a smartphone, fans can sometimes take things a little too far when they document the lives of famous people. However, celebrities are also people – let’s not forget that – and can be equally fallible.
Case in point: the famous and much sought after techno DJ Richie Hawtin was recently filmed pushing a large monitor onto an unidentified woman during one of his shows in New York.
Hawtin is famous for being one of “Detroit techno's crucial second wave of talent” during the '90s and is notorious for his creative parties. Over the weekend, he was caught pushing an object heavy enough to cause a fall on a woman recording his set with her iPhone.
Luckily, no fans (nor iPhone screens) were reported as injured during the incident.
However, Hawtin does appear to have a guilty conscious and has since apologized publicly on his Facebook page:
“Regarding the incident at Time Warp in New York this weekend which is being posted and talked about on the web, I would like to apologize here to the girl involved. It was not my intention that the speaker fell. Only to nudge the monitors in her direction and for her to understand that perhaps she had filmed enough. I was as surprised as I'm sure she was when it moved the way it did and the top speaker fell off of the stack. For that, I'm extremely sorry and embarrassed about what happened.”
Talk about dropping the bass.
