Drama And Comedy Expected At The Emmys

The rumor mill ahead of the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards buzzed with speculation that Charlie Sheen, bounced from TV's highest-rated sitcom earlier this year, could take the stage Sunday night.

The Hollywood Reporter cited unidentified sources saying Sheen, who will be roasted in a Comedy Central roast show Monday, will be a surprise presenter at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles Sunday night.

With Ashton Kutcher, who replaced Sheen on the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men," as a presenter, the Emmy stage could become a mini-roast for Sheen.

But watching out for the unpredictable and unnominated Sheen sho"Glee" star Jane Lynch becomes just the third woman ever to host the show, following in the footsteps of pioneers Angela Lansbury and Ellen DeGeneres.

If a photo tweeted this week by "Jersey Shore's" Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi showing Lynch dressed like the reality TV star is an indication, Lynch will deliver comedic send-ups. The drama may be, appropriately, in the competition for "best drama series" as three-time winner "Mad Men" is challenged by newcomer "Boardwalk Empire."

HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" already earned seven Emmy awards handed out last weekend at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys.

Jon Hamm, who portrays ad exec Don Draper in AMC's "Mad Men," has yet to win for lead actor in a drama despite being nominated in each of the last three seasons. The series received 19 nominations overall for 2011.

"Boardwalk Empire's" Steve Buscemi is hoping to spoil Hamm's fourth try this year. Buscemi, whose role of Enoch Thompson already earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe, is looking for his first Emmy. He has two previous nominations, including one for his work as Tony Blundetto in "The Sopranos."

HBO, which is owned by CNN's parent company Time Warner, dominated the nominations for an 11th consecutive year in 2011 with 104 Emmy nods. The second highest number of nominations by a network was 50 for CBS.uld not be the only source of drama -- or comedy -- during the Emmy broadcast.
