It was probably one of the biggest announcements of August! At least for the Doctor Who fans it was.

Peter Capaldi, best known for his role as Malcolm Tucker in the comedy series The Thick of It was revealed as the new star of the British sci-fi franchise Doctor Who replacing Matt Smith on Sunday during a live broadcast on BBC America.

It's so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer,” said Capaldi, who is an all-time fan of the show. “I haven't played Doctor Who since I was 9 on the playground.”

The half-hour live special on BBC America, hosted by British TV personality Zoe Ball, also featured past Who stars, including Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor (1981-84).

Let’s see how the fans who had been eagerly waiting for the twelfth Doctor reacted to the ‘big’ news.

Debates About His Age:

Some people think the New Doctor is too old, while others think it doesn’t really matter.

Still Not Ginger:

Some are even complaining that he isn’t a ‘she’. Writer Steven Moffat replied to that by saying that it’s just like asking a man to become Queen.
