Remember Hanson? The trio of brothers who became a boy band sensation in the late 90s with their hit song MmmBop? So, they still exist (turns out they were humans, and not some sort of teen pop market construction) and they have found something to do with themselves now that they are all grown up, and MmmBop is but a distant memory for people of a certain age. The Hanson brothers are now brewing beer.
And they're calling it MmmHops.
What a world we live in.
As proof that they are all grown up, they are coordinating their marketing efforts with the release of the Hangover III (attaching themselves to a three part media unit that lasted longer than them). The movie opens with Zach Galifianikas listening to MmmBop, and the beer was introduced at a Hangover III premiere after party.
Probably not coincidentally, when I found the original MmmBop video to embed in this piece, I was first made to watch an ad for Hangover III. Probably not what the brothers thought would eventually happen to their hit single, but hey, life takes all sorts of twists and turns.
And hey, good for the Hanson brothers for parlaying their fifteen minutes of fame into something more fun and steady than playing their one song that everyone knows and their other songs that no one knows at random festivals for a depressing number of years.
Also, does anyone else think that the middle brother kind of looks like Kurt Cobain? And sorry if MmmBop is now in your head. It's in mine too and I'm not sure what to do about it.
