Most Friends fans can quote the show ad nauseum and know the episodes in and out from watching them so many times. But did you know one scene from the popular TV show had to be cut when the 9/11 attacks took place?
The episode titled “The One Where Rachel Tells Ross” from Season 8 had a joke that went over like a lead balloon after the terrorist attacks on New York.
The clip showed newlyweds Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Monica (Courteney Cox) at an airport, off for their honeymoon, when Chandler made a silly joke about bombs, getting the couple into serious trouble with the authorities.
"The sign says, 'No jokes about bombs,' but shouldn't the sign really say 'no bombs'?" Chandler asks. "I mean isn't that the guy we really have to worry about here? The guy with the bombs? Not the guy who jokes about his bombs. Not that I have bombs, but if I did I probably wouldn't joke about them. I'd probably want to keep that rather quiet."
Friends isn't alone among New York City-set shows that had to edit episodes; Law and Order and Sex and The City also had to be edited for post-9/11 sensitivities.
