Doesn’t matter if you are the CIA Director, no sex scandal can spare you from the mockery of late night shows television anchors. And you’re not spared especially if you’re Gen David Petraeus! Petraeus is the CIA director who shocked the nation when he acknowledged of having an extramarital affair with biographer Paula Broadwell and subsequently resigned.
Following his resignation Petraues also joined the ranks of other federal officials and celebrities who could not escape the pinching punch lines of late night show hosts.
Here’s how some of these shows joked about the scandal.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
During his show Jay Leno asked current and former military members in the audience to stand for a brief Veterans Day tribute. Leno said he hoped his viewers had hugged a veteran '... Unless your name is Paula Broadwell,'he quipped.
Stephen Colbert’s Comedy Central
Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert, presented his two recently written books on the show, and jokingly confessed to his ‘Colbert nation’: ‘It’s time for me to some clean’.
'I had an improper relationship with my biographer. I've spent a lot of time alone with the author of these books. There was a connection and let’s just say, he got a little handsy.
And I did things I never thought I would do, but have been doing for decades. I’m sorry.'
The David Letterman Show
In the same vein CBS funnyman David Letterman on his show said: 'Petraeus allegedly had an affair with his biographer, which means from now on, he'll only be having sex with his AUTO-biographer.'
