Gotham, the upcoming TV series on Fox, tells the story behind Commissioner James Gordon who rises to prominence in Gotham City in the years before Batman's arrival.
The trailer shows a familiar scene of a young Bruce Wayne witnessing the cold-blooded murder of his parents and telling Jim Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie) about it. This is the catalytic moment that initiated his journey to Batman.
All the signs that Gotham the TV series will be significantly different from the movie version, Batman Begins, are there. The killer Bruce Wayne's parents seems to be not just some thug and there is an undeniable feel of darker elements and conspiracies behind the act of violence.
According to the official description, it will follow "the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous." The pilot episode will explore the investigation Gordon undertook of the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne.
Fox's Gotham, set to premiere on Sept. 22, also stars Robin Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Sean Pertwee as the butler Alfred Pennyworth, Camren Bicondova as Selian Kyle and is directed by Danny Cannon.
Fox, all set to debut the series in style, has announced that they'll also be bringing some Gotham-esque attractions to San Diego Comic-Con, like a 130-foot zipline going through the Gotham City skyline and Gotham City Police cars for Uber users to cruise around in among other attractions.
