"Saturday Night Live" this weekend delivered a hilarious skit poking fun at the ridiculous reactions of white some people to Beyoncé embracing her heritage.
It all started when Queen Bey surprised fans with the release of the song and video the day before she performed at the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show. The show aired a fake trailer called “The Day Beyoncé Turned Black,” parodying the outrage over Beyonce’s new song and music video, "Formation."
In the fake trailer, white people are shocked when they realize Beyoncé is black after listening to the song. The skit unfolded like a horror movie. Many of the show's white cast members were shown reacting in disbelief over the singer's new single "Formation" and her Super Bowl performance, not having realized she was black.
"I think... Beyoncé... is black!" one of the characters tells her husband, who seems shocked and frightened by the news. A man watching the video at work stands up at his desk, confused. There’s another newscast in which we hear that apparently Beyoncé “isn’t the only black celebrity. Some are saying Kerry Washington may also be black.”
The trailer’s voiceover announcer notes, “It was the day they lost their damn white minds.”
