Action star Jackie Chan is the latest celebrity to fall victim to an online hoax reporting his death. ‘RIP Jackie Chan’ became a hot trending topic on Twitter, with some on social media sites going so far as to report the cause of death was a heart attack. Like Johnny Depp, Lindsay Lohan, and Russell Crowe before him, Chan had the opportunity to view the twittersphere mourn his passing while he was very much alive.
In order to reassure his fans, a message was posted on Chan’s Facebook page announcing his status among the living:""Jackie is alive and well,"" reads a note on his Facebook page. ""He did not suffer a heart attack and die, as was reported on many social networking sites and in online news reports.""
The 56-year-old actor has been busy preparing and filming his new movie, according to the post on Facebook.
For those out there who are still skeptical, Chan posted a photo of himself dated March 29 on his website showing him meeting with top Japanese officials.
""Jackie met with Yuji Kumamaru, Consul-General of Japan in Hong Kong to discuss the details of 'Love without Borders 3/11 Candlelight Gala"" read the caption on the photo. The Gala will benefit the victims of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan.
