As students head back to colleges and universities, Oliver took aim at the scourge of student debt in the United States. But for the most part, focused on how government and for-profit institutions are to be blamed for the crisis.
“Essentially, student debt is like HPV,” he said.
“If you go to college, you're almost certainly going to get it, and if you do, it will follow you for the rest of your life,” he remarked before comparing student debt to LBJ's testicles.
Oliver explained how this crisis arises from an even bigger – and lesser known – problems. He mentioned the misplaced priorities of government institutions that included the states slashing funding for education by 23 percent since 2007.
He then discussed how for-profit colleges, despite enrolling only have 13 percent of all college students, represent a much larger percentage of the country’s student loans.
Here’s how the host concluded the segment:
"Drink beer from a funnel. Kidnap a mascot. Find out if you're gay or not, and even if you're not, have some gay experiences. … Become that weird guy on campus who rides a unicycle from class to class. Find out whoever the Winklevoss twins of your school are and steal their idea for a website."
