He’s back… Luc Besson, one of the most critically acclaimed action film directors of our age, has arrived with his latest sci-fi action/adventure flick Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson in the lead role.
The film’s trailer has been making waves on YouTube with over 9 million views already.
Lucy is set in a fictional universe where university professors teach that you can only access 10 percent of your brain.
The story revolves around Lucy, an American woman living in Taiwan, who somehow ends up with a package of drugs inside her body. She is then forced by the mob to transport the drugs across the border. However, a violent encounter causes the drugs to leak in to her system, transforming her into a superhuman with unbelievable powers.
Here’s the interesting bit. In Lucy’s universe, people only use 10 percent of their brain capacity. This so-called fact is reiterated by a university professor, played by Morgan Freeman, who looks like he doesn’t belong in this world. Honestly, what is he doing here?
Anyway, Lucy, who can now “miraculously” access 28 percent of her brain capacity, is a shape-shifter, time-traveler, and what not. Also, she’s out to seek revenge against those who wronged her. By the looks of it, she mercilessly kills and beats all the bad guys to a pulp.
As banal as the central scientific argument may seem, the trailer does look visually fascinating. Scarlett Johansson is in her element as the wonderfully fit Lucy and steals the scenes with her charismatic presence. The over-the-top action sequences seem top-notch and well-crafted.
Lucy will hit the American screens on August 8, 2014.
