Lupita Nyong’o won an Oscar for her debut as the Best Supporting Actress for the film ‘Twelve Years A Slave’ and boy did she deserve it. However, she also won our hearts all over again with her acceptance speech.
If she had us at,“It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else’s”; we had goose bumps when she told director Steve McQueen that the dead are watching, and that she believes “they are grateful.”
What’s more, at a moment when seasoned stars fumble and forget their loved one’s names; she passionately and eloquently thanked all the people in her family, her co stars and what’s more; the diligent behind the scenes staff that people usually don’t even know exist.
Her message; “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”
Cheers for a brilliant artist who deserves to go way beyond the Oscars of 2014.
