Gay advocacy group GLAAD says Madonna will present CNN's Anderson Cooper with the Vito Russo Award, an award for openly gay media professionals at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on March 16.

CNN's Anderson Cooper declined to speak publicly about his sexuality for years but came out last year when he admitted publically that he was gay, adding that while privacy is important for journalists, he did not want to give the impression he was hiding something and wanted to stand up against bullying. He gave blogger Andrew Sullivan permission to publish an email in which Cooper said he was gay and "couldn't be more happy."

The awards will be hosted by Sam Champion, Josh Elliott, and Lara Spencer of ABC's Good Morning America.
