Matthew Fox has spoken out on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he remained quiet when charges of assaulting a woman last year were filed against him. Fox said he did that because he didn't want to legitimize her claim and also because he knew that the courts would find him guiltless.

46-year-old actor told Ellen during an interview 'When you're involved in a criminal and a civil case, you're advised not to speak about these things, because they're trying to find the truth and depose witnesses.'

Take a look at his interview:

Speaking of the incident, Fox said that a fight broke out when he was filming the movie Alex Cross and at that time it was also reported that he was on the way to a bachelor party.

He said of the supposed victim: 'She was a woman that was in proximity to that, and she decided that she was going to write up a different version of events that happened that night and try to extort money from me, that was what went down.' But he entirely acknowledgedhis drunkendriving citationon the showand said 'I was terribly embarrassed by that.'

'I really own that and have done every single thing the state of Oregon requires for a first-time DUI offender. I have learned a ton.’ said the former Lost actor.
