Soundclud user hausoflucas has mashed the two songs up into one mix to show just how closely the two songs are. Even better, the mashup sounds pretty good!

It’s hard to note much difference from one “You-go-girl” pop song to another, but in the case of Katy Perry’s new song Brave and Sara Bareilles’ song Brave, the similarities are a little too close to deny.

Here are Roar and Brave mashed up into one mix to show just how closely the two songs are. Even better, the mashup sounds pretty good!

Did Katy Perry actively plagerize Sarah Bareilles’ song? I don’t think so. Instead, it seems likely that girl pop is so formulaic these days that songs naturally sound similar. Think of the all the other recent top-40 chick-rock songs that would fit into this mix as well.

Also, am I the only one that feels like Roar was meant to be the official theme of Lion King 3, but then the movie wasn’t done on time?

I am? Oh, OK.

What do you think? Did Katie Parry steal to create her new song, or is this all a coincidence?
