When Warner Bros Pictures announced last week that actor Ben Affleck will play Batman in an upcoming Superman sequel, devoted fans reacted to the news with negative criticism and internet backlash.
Looks like Ben Affleck is not someone people would like to fight crime wearing a huge black cape. Memes, reaction Vine and YouTube videos, humorously criticizing Affleck as Batman, quickly went viral. But then, someone came up with a more serious response, something that would ensure Ben Affleck’s removal as the legendary super hero; a White House petition.
Unfortunately for the petitioners, it was removed from the website. But that didn’t stop people from moving forward. According to Variety.com, “Over 30 petitions sprung up on Change.org overnight to cast another actor as Batman.”
One of the petitions entitled, “Warner Brothers: Remove Ben Affleck As Batman/Bruce Wayne In The Superman/Batman Movie,” has received almost 70, 000 signatures, as of this writing.
The demand states:
“His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won't do the role justice. He's not intimidating enough for the role of Batman. Batman is someone that strikes fear in the hearts of men. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he's not remotely close to an action star or a superhero. Please find someone else and deliver to the fans what they want.”
So, what do you think of the idea? Are people over-reacting? Or are you planning on to signing the petition yourself?
