Was Brosnan A Mediocre Bond? He Sure Thinks So

The James Bond star of the 90s, Pierce Brosnan, believes his portrayal of 007 was not great.

One of the most iconic movie franchises of all time, James Bond, has catapulted actors who played the British agent to astonishing heights of fame. One such actor is the suave Pierce Brosnan.

Although Brosnan is not ungrateful for the role, he sure isn’t satisfied.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Brosnan described his take on the character as ‘tame’.

“I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean, said Brosnan, “It was a very hard one to grasp the meaning of, for me. The violence was never real, the brute force of the man was never palpable. It was quite tame, and the characterization didn’t have a follow-through of reality, it was surface. But then that might have had to do with my own insecurities in playing him as well.”

While Brosnan’s take on James Bond was not the best of the lot, he is being quite hard on himself here. His movies didn’t suffer from bad acting as much as bad writing.

Moreover, one of his films, GoldenEye, was actually quite good.

Brosnan cannot bear to watch his Bond films with his kids. He says, "I have no desire to watch myself as James Bond. ‘Cause it’s just never good enough. It’s a horrible feeling."

Personally, out of all the actors who played Bond, I would rate Sean Connery and Daniel Craig to be the best but Brosnan was not far behind.
