The peasant girl who fought against all cultural odds to become a warrior.
The movie “Mulan” which was released in 1998 is based on an ancient Chinese legend known as “Hua Mulan” who takes her aged father's place in the army.
Although Mulan received positive reviews at the time of its release, it seems the leading lady of the animated movie is not as popular among little girls as other Disney princesses such as Snow White, Aurora or Belle.
Here we have compiled a list of 17 reasons that will help you understand why Queen Elsa from “Frozen” (2013) and the Brave (2012) Princess Merida will never be able to match up to the spirit that Fa Mulan possessed.
#1: Mulan is much more real than other Disney ladies:
For instance, this is how others wake up:
And this is what Mulan looks like in the morning:
#2: She likes to eat:
She just cannot get enough of it:
#3: She can be a little sneaky at times:
Remember the time she prepared a cheat sheet?
Now I'm just trying to paint what Mulan put on her arm as a cheat sheet I don't even know Chinese and why Disney why pic.twitter.com/UNAFDZ0WTA— Alessandra (@AllieFonseca) April 9, 2013
But that’s okay as long as it saves the family’s honor. Right?
Oh, and remember this?
#4: She can be a little clumsy at times:
But she manages to do well eventually:
#5: For the record, Mulan is not a tomboy:
Unlike what people might usually say about her, Mulan is not a tomboy.
Sure, she doesn’t like to dress up in the morning like other Disney princesses. She likes to play around with her dog instead.
But the girl knows her make-up alright. She can look like a total goddess when she wants to.
#6: She isn’t afraid of taking chances:
When the girl realized there was but only one way of defending her father’s honor, she decided to take the biggest risk of her life.
Also, in the history of Disney animated movies, there hasn’t been a more dramatic scene than the one in which Mulan cuts off her hair with a sword and ties it into a bun to look like a man.
It perfectly showcases the character’s determination to put things right. Truly remarkable.
#7: She is the only Disney girl who knows how to kick butt:
#8: And how to handle a sword:
#9: Most of the time, Mulan manages on her own without magic:
#10: She has lots of inspiring quotes to share:
Just listen to her noble views:
#11: Mulan is perhaps the only Disney lead who gets to kick her hero’s butt:
But it’s not that she can't bee a good girlfriend:
#12: She also saves his life:

Not once but twice:
#13: She struggles after all her efforts:
Just to put things in perspective, this is what Belle from Beauty and the Beast got after she endeavored to save her father’s life:
And this is how Mulan was treated after she tried to protect her father’s honor and defend her country:
She almost got beheaded for it:
#14: But that didn’t stop her from defeating the Huns:
This is the face Shan Yu – the “leader” of the Huns – makes when he sees Mulan.
How can you not spot the fear in his eyes?
And here’s how she eventually kills the most ruthless man on the planet:
#15: All of China bows in front of Mulan:
#16: She even gets to be friends with the Emperor:
#17: And she marries an Army General instead of Prince Charming in the end:
Unlike other Disney female protagonists, Mulan is not a princess. Not before or after marriage.
