Sept. 11, 2014: Ban Ki-moon was on 'The Daily Show' and he gave Jon Stewart a peacekeeping helmet to 'protect' him during interviews.

Finally, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon made his much-anticipated appearance on “The Daily Show” this week.

Since it’s a once-in-a-while opportunity to have such busy folks on late night comedy programs, Comedy Central host Jon Stewart came prepared to make the most of the UN chief’s presence – and he did.

“Thank you for being here. I really appreciate it. I know you probably have better things to do,” he said as he welcomed one of the most important guests on his show.

Referring to the present humanitarian crises in the world such as the ones in Syria, Iraq and Nigeria, Stewart asked the secretary-general if he could recall a more dire time for the human condition. “We are living an era of multiple crises” – all of them happening at the same time, Ban replied.

To add a little comic relief to the inevitably serious discussion, the host asked Ban which country out of all the members, according to him, was “the biggest pain in the butt.”

The UN head pertinently dodged the question, saying the most difficult time for the organization is when the member states cannot agree on one decision over a particular matter.

Also, Ban brought a very special gift for Stewart – a UN peacekeeper helmet to "protect" him during interviews.
