Stephen Colbert mocked Fox News pundits like Bill O’Reilly for their ability to know what former U.S. President Ronald Reagan would and would not have done at any point in time.
“Conservatives have the uncanny ability to know what Ronald Reagan would do at any given time,” Stephen Colbert said. “Syrian conflict? Invade. Obamacare? Repeal. Soup or salad? Jelly beans.”
Keeping this as the premise for his show on Monday, Colbert elaborated what ‘Super Reagan’ would do about the Syrian conflict.
The segment showed video clips featuring Bill O’Reilly giving his analysis on what Reagan would have said to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to put an end to his atrocities on civilians if he were the president today.
“Don’t you use gas or you’re gonna pay a price,” O’Reilly said in his show while delivering a hypothetical threat by Reagan to Assad.
Colbert pointed out that O’Reilly may not have been referring to the ‘old’ Ronald Reagan – who ignored Saddam Hussein gassing his own Kurdish citizens in the 1980s. Instead, the comedian speculated that the FOX News pundit may be talking about a hypothetical ‘Super Reagan’ who never raised taxes, or tripled the deficit, and who ‘knocked down the Berlin Wall using his nut sack as a wrecking ball.’
