Stephen Colbert presented another ‘thoughtful and sensitive’ show devoted to the gun control debate and titled it as ‘Stephen Colbert’s Double-Barrel Blam-O-Rama’.
He started off his show wearing a grass and weed suit hiding, in his ‘underground bunker’, from jackbooted government thugs who might bust in take away all the guns. He then took off his mask made out of grass and told the audience to get one of those suits to escape the gun snatchers because Joe Biden is all prepared to give his recommendations for gun control.
Colbert plays a video of Biden in which he announces to submit his proposal to President Obama. And another in which he says ‘no silver bullets’. Colbert turned towards the crowd and sarcastically argued that people won’t be able to defend themselves against ‘werewolf’ bandits if the government puts a ban on ‘silver’ bullets.
Taking a turn towards Hollywood, Colbert blamed the movies for glamorizing gun violence citing Oscar-nominated examples such as Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo and Lincoln and, Les Miserables.
The opening segment concluded with a mocking assertion that violence portrayed in movies and video games is responsible for the shootings and not guns.
