A celebrity-turned-fashion designer used to be a joke, but Hollywood's elite are raking in dough with their fashion lines.

Making it in Hollywood is one thing; breaking into the fashion industry can be even tougher for Tinseltown fashionistas.

The stars know that being popular and stylish is only the first step to make their way into the fashion industry. Some hugely popular actresses, like Jennifer Lopez and even Sarah Jessica Parker, still see their fashion lines fail.

But there are a couple of stars who shine not just on the screen, but on the runway as well. Check out these celebrities whose fashion lines actually sell.

The daughter of singer Lionel Richie created House of Harlow 1960. She started off with jewelry collection and four year later introduced her ready-to-wear clothing line, Winter Kate. The two lines bring in an additional almost $3 million each year for Richie.

Jessica Simpson makes serious money with her clothing line. Her line sells clothing, shoes, and handbags. In 2010, it reportedly earned $750 million in sales and it’s still doing a pretty good job in the fashion market. The Jessica Simpson collection became the first celebrity fashion line to exceed a billion dollars in sales.

The posh Spice Girl has long been known for her sleek, stylish fashion sense. Her line made an astounding $95 million in sales in 2011 and soon after Beckham was named "Designer of the Year" at the British Fashion Awards. Currently, Victoria has several collections, including denim, accessories and ready to wear, and plans to expand into menswear.

Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. label is one of the most colorful choices out there. The line currently sells clothing, shoes, handbags and a fragrance. Stefani's line received heavy criticism following its debut in 2003, but it reportedly earns $90 million in sales each year.

In 2012 the Council of Fashion Designers of America named Ashley and Mary-Kate as Women’s wear Designers of The Year. The Olsen twins' fashion empire is now worth $1 billion.
