As France mourns following the tragic terrorist attacks in Paris that claimed nearly 200 lives, a French cartoonist has shared sketches that celebrate life in the beloved city and its beauty.
Artist, writer and director Joann Sfar started the Instagram hashtag #parisisaboutlife over the weekend, under which she shared illustrations of some of the daily activities in Paris including a child holding a cookie and his mother’s arm, a gathering of musicians from all over the world and even a satirical sketch mocking the film industry and the movies set to come out in theaters this week that will likely go unseen.
Although the heart of the city is aching from the recent events, Sfar's artwork celebrates what Paris really stands for and serves as a symbol that Paris will not be defined by these attacks and the love and beauty of France's capital will be restored.
Loose translation: "Message from the cinema industry : Our thoughts go to the families of the victims and to the producers who have a movie coming out next Wednesday.”
