The November issue of the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin concluded something interesting about dating -- and many of you won’t be surprised when you hear what it is.
A study revealed that men generally think they would like to date an intelligent woman but when they actually come across such a woman, they don’t really appreciate the idea as much.
The conclusion comes from a number of studies carried out by researchers from the University of Buffalo, California Lutheran University and University of Texas, which examined 105 male participants. Researchers questioned these men about what they consider attractive in women and created hypothetical scenarios telling the men of women who performed better than them at specific subjects such as math or English.
Initially, the men were attracted to intelligent women. However, later they were only attracted to these women from a distance.
While having a face-to-face interaction with a smarter woman, the men “distanced themselves more from her, tended to rate her as less attractive, and showed less desire to exchange contact information or plan a date with her,” the study revealed.
Interestingly, this is not the first time this idea of men being threatened by intellectual women has surfaced. Earlier in 2013, a research study about straight men showed they were generally uncomfortable with their partner’s success. Even when the two were not in direct competition, men happened to take their lady’s success as their own failure, which made them feel intimidated.
But this is not the end for intelligent women. While many of them can choose to remain single and independent, there are a lot of sapiosexual men out there who would gladly date a woman with brains.
