Miami rap star Pitbull may not be heading for ‘International Love’ but is all set to bring his act to a far-flung place and the place selected for that is Kodiak, Alaska. However, the selection of the destination comes as an output of marketing and mischief mix.
Also known as Armando Christian Perez, Pitbull in a promotion with Wal-Mart stores and Sheet Energy Strips, agreed to visit whichever Wal-Mart got the most number of likes on its Facebook page. Taking advantage of this situation a writer for the Boston Phoenix, David Thorpe thought it would be funny to exile the rapper to the most remote Wal-Mart possible, and hence, he encouraged people to ‘like’ the Wal-Mart in Kodiak. The store, which happens to be in the city with a population of 6,100, got over 70,000 ‘likes’!

According to Wal-Mart spokesperson Sarah Spencer details of the trip are still being worked out.
Pitbull during his tour will spend time in the community and with Wal-Mart employees. In order to campaign for the upcoming tour Pitbull appeared in a YouTube video while on a tour in Madrid. "I heard that Kodiak, Alaska, has the most likes due to someone who thinks he was playing a prank." Pitbull said on the video. "I said, 'OK, great, this sounds really good.' You have to understand I will go anywhere in the world for my fans."
Interestingly, he does not want to make the trip alone. "I want to invite that someone who thinks it's a joke to Kodiak, Alaska, with me," he said. It is likely that the invitation will be accepted by none other than David Thorpe, but unlike others he will have to raise funds to get to Kodiak on his own.
Thorpe said that he has nothing against Pitbull and his main intent was "to disrupt a corporate social media campaign, since they really set themselves up for it." However, Thorpe did made fun of Pitbull in his column saying that since Pitbull was so enthusiastic about being sent to a random Wal-Mart, he made sure that his destination is somewhere interesting. The writer said he has no idea what to expect when both are in Kodiak.
