The first-ever YouTube Music Awards, hosted by actor Jason Schwartzmanand musician-comedian Reggie Watts, were in New York.
The ceremony was 90 minutes long and experimental at best. Many of the awards went to relatively lesser known artists, which wasn’t surprising. Despite the likes of Miley Cyrus,Psy, Lady Gagaand Justin Bieberamong the nominations, K-Pop sensation Girls' Generation took home the best video award for their song "I Got a Boy."
The Breakthrough Act Award went to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, while Eminemwas named the Artist of the Year.
A memorable act was that of Lady Gaga’s, who came on stage devoid of her trademark blonde hair and make-up, to give a chilling and tearful performance on a piano.
The show was streamed live, but many were unhappy about the stream stopping several times and the show being censored.
