The trailer of the much anticipated, thriller docu-drama, Zero Dark Thirty has been released. The trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s much anticipated film gives the first glimpse of her controversial movie about the Navy SEAL operation carried out in May 2011 in Pakistan to capture Osama Bin Laden. The trailer increases the suspense by promising that it will tell the truth behind “The Story You Think You Know.”
The film stars Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Kyle Chandler, who plays the head of CIA in Pakistan. It is due to hit US cinemas on December 19th 2012.
Like the event of Bin Laden’s capture and killing, the movie has its list of controversies and confusions as well.
Topping them is the allegation that the director was given access to classified files about the mission and that she in turn has made a propaganda film for Barack Obama. U.S. President Barack Obama has been accused of jeopardizing US national security by giving Bigelow and her team "top-level access to the classified mission.” Pentagon is investigating whether the filmmakers were given inappropriate access to classified material for the movie or not. The Obama administration denies that allegation, but the evidence has been enough for some to label the movie as “propaganda.” The fact that the movie was slated to be released in October, just before the elections also fueled these allegations. However, Bigelow deniesthese allegations and Sony changed the release date to December just to get away from the controversy.
Well, no matter what tactics are taken, it is highly probable (and most likely the case) that the Obama Administration did work very closely and revealed some information regarding the case (even if just on need-to-know basis) to the director of the movie. The movie is said to be a propaganda tool for the Obama administration, and it is most likely just that. After all, Obama’s is neither the first nor the last government to use this tool for playing the hero, gaining people’s support and eventually their votes.
Since the beginning, governments have slain monsters like the Nazi’s, the communists, and more recently the Arab terrorists to gain their people’s support and adoration.
Yes, the date has been changed and the film will now be released post elections. But this does not dispel any claims. By the time of the elections in November, the film will have been promoted enough to do the job of putting the message across as well as increasing the people’s curiosity for the movie as well.
So, it may or may not be “The Story You Think You Know” but is sure is one more push for American Voters, propelling them towards Obama.
