What Is it?
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival commonly known as Coachella, Coachellafest, or Coachella Festival is an annual three-day music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Now this is an event that every music lover and free spirit must attend at least once in their lifetimes! The colors, sights and sounds of the experience will remain with you forever!
The event features rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic music. Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music. People come from far and beyond, many even camp on site and the weekends have never been so lively!
The music festival that attracts tens of thousands of fans annually has, in many ways, developed into a small community of visitors — including those who choose to stay on site.
The festival showcases popular and established musical artists, as well as emerging artists and reunited groups. There are quite literally over a hundred bands at the festival.
Notable appearances in the past have included the likes of Snoop Dogg, Prince, Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Duran Duran, Radiohead, Oasis, Madonna, Björk, Nine Inch Nails, Jay-Z and Red Hot Chili Peppers among others.
How it started:
It all started in October 1999 where about 10,000 people attended the two-day inaugural event.
The rest is history, even though quite a recent one, but the event has become one of the most looked forward to! Here are a few glimpses:
And then there are the monuments. There will be a few installations. More than likely, this time also there would be quite a few this time as well.
In the past decade, EDM increasingly has become a chief component of Coachella - as important, if not more so, as having rock veterans The Stone Roses on top of the bill.
What to expect this year?
This year, both weekends sold out in less in than an hour. With temperatures expected in the 90s, the event will draw more than 80,000 people per day.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, How to Destroy Angels, Of Monsters and Men, Blur, The Stone Roses, Vampire Weekend, Danny Brown and Earl Sweatshirtamong others are lined up t play.
So, if you are lucky enough to be in the region, get ready, get in the mood, go out and enjoy the best of what the season has to offer!
