Aged between 62 and 100-years old, these women appear on Ari Cohen’s high-end fashion blog called Advanced Style. This blog has a great and often overlooked cause: fashion for older women. There is little literature on fashion for women over 60 and Cohen decided to do something about it.
The women it features have wisdom galore to offer about fashion, and even more to teach about life.
The blog, which follows fashionable women of substance, has garnered critical acclaim and even inspired a documentary by filmmaker Lina Plioplyte.
The documentary chronicles seven remarkable New Yorkers aged between ages 62 and 95 as they defy the stereotypes of beauty and age with their distinctive sense of style.
Without further ado, let’s meet some of the powerhouse women Advanced Style covers.
"Inexpensive lipstick is as good as expensive, only better
"Invest in Quality pieces; they never go out of style."
“I'm dressed up for the theatre of my life every day!'
Ilona Royce Smithkin
94 Years Old
"In trying to be perfect you miss half of your life."
“Elegance Is Always in Style.”
It’s interesting how most of us want to stay young. We are often possessed by that desire. Heck, there’s even a song dedicated to it. These women, however, have overcome things that are beyond their control. Instead of fretting, they focus on enjoying their life and looking good while doing it.
Like the finest of wines, these women have only gotten better with time.
They not only challenge conventional notions of aging, but shatter them completely.
