Residents of Midwest and Greater Plains are experiencing an arctic winter unlike any they have ever seen.
Temperatures plunged drastically and reached an all-time low in some places during the weekend as the second of two arctic blasts hit middle America, breaking more than three dozen temperature records.
Many states had an actual air temperature between -20 or -30 but coupled with the wind chill factor, it felt like -55 degrees on Sunday, Dec. 18.
The National Weather Service warned the frigid temperature may pose danger to human life and exposure for even a few minutes can result in frostbite. Residents are urged to stay indoors in the worst hit areas and hundreds of car accidents have occurred on the click roads.
The wind chill is expected to improve on Monday and the states are expected to reach average-December temperature by Wednesday.
