It is hard to believe that someone would actually pay to have their dentist purposely make their teeth crooked when you live in a culture where perfectly straight teeth are considered most beautiful. The Japanese snaggletooth trend aka tseuke-yaeba, is all the rage right now for women in Japan.
The Japanese snaggletooth trend (tseuke-yaeba) does have some structure to it. It’s not that the teeth go crazy crooked, it is that the k-9 looking teeth protrude to appear fanglike. So how much does it cost to achieve this unique Japanese beauty trend? It will cost you roughly $400.
Why would these women actually want their teeth to look like this? According to Dr. Emilie Zaslow from Pace University, it is because “The gapped tooth is sort of pre-orthodontic or early development, and the naturally occurring yaeba is because of delayed baby teeth or a mouth that's too small. It's this kind of emphasis on youth and the sexualization of young girls.”
