Nature scores another point in the mating game, as a recent study notes that women with feminine features are more likely to secure a mate – at least for one night.
In the study, several-hundred heterosexual males were shown pictures of women’s faces and asked which ones the males would want as short or long-term partners. For each woman, two pictures were shown, one highlighting the woman’s feminine features, and one highlighting her masculine features.
While results regarding long-term partnership were mixed, men showed a natural preference for the feminine faces in regards to short-term flings. Men who were already in relationships showed the highest preference for the feminine faces.
Feminine features like small jawbones and fuller cheeks are associated with youth, health, and fidelity - all of which are evolutionarily attractive to the pro-creating male. Feminine features also signal a high level of estrogen, which again implies that the female is fertile and healthy.
So there you go ladies. If you want men to sleep with you, but not date you, all you have to do is play up your femininity. If you’d like a guy to marry you, however, science has no idea what you should do.
