The good folks at FaceResearch.org have created fascinating results from a simple process: they averaged all the faces of women from different countries. Now we can see what the average German woman, Ethiopian woman, Burmese woman, and 37 other countries.
A few people have been confused, and even doubted that these pictures could really represent the “average woman” due to one factor: they are all beautiful. Shouldn’t they all be average? Actually no: these pictures don’t show the average woman’s face, they show the average of all women’s faces. Beauty is largely a measure of how average one looks, and any abnormalities or asymmetries will be smoothed out by the other woman who don’t have that particular feature.
If you liked this, you can go over to FaceResearch and participate in their experiments (which don’t necessarily involve taking your picture), because the average face research experiment is pretty cool.
