Valentine’s Day is just round the corner and if you are single, then you have no reason to be sad because no one will pay attention to you even if you do.
Bitter truth, isn’t it? Spending the day with friends who have their better halves and even quarters, girlfriends and boyfriends can be really depressing. It is just one day but it is THE day when everyone (who has someone) gets to share their feelings of affection and love.
Spending Valentine’s Day as a single guy or girl in high school days is probably among the worst experiences of one’s life. Everyone who has a crush on someone in their class expects a surprise proposal or a hint saying ‘I like you’. Scribbled notes with hearts, hugs and kisses are circulated carefully without attracting the teacher’s attention. Some show up wearing a red dress or shirt as the color is commonly associated with love (and danger signs as well...oh the irony!).
The sad part comes in when you realize none of it is happening to you. Therefore, the scribbled love notes are often handed over to teachers by you and sometimes you also spill soda accidentally on your friend’s red shirt before she sets out to meet her date during the recess.
You enjoyed doing that one, didn’t you? Don’t worry; you’re awesome if you did.
It is as if one more element called LOVE joins oxygen, nitrogen and other gases and changes the entire composition of air around you. It is suffocating, isn’t it?
It is understandable that it’s a day to express love but honestly, I think people overdo stuff when it comes to the part where love has to be ‘expressed’. Each year it is the same old love songs and calorie-filled chocolates, ironically for girls who starve themselves days before February 14th to look skinnier for their dates. Everything’s just plain boring, expensive and gross if any kissing is involved.
Try doing this: closely observe people who are with their so-called Valentines and you will realize that it is just a day made for people who think they are in love. However, if you think differently than them, that makes you special and far more sensible!
Maybe having someone special close to you is important on a day when people are overcome with feelings like love and devotion but it is not the end of the world. Even the Mayan apocalypse was not the end of the world! Relax because life goes on and must go on. The right person will eventually come along. Just don’t set a particular date for it.
Consider yourself lucky and thank God for sparing you the pain and money. It is simply hormonal rush peppered with capitalism on Valentine’s Day and that is it. Cheer yourself up with the Forever Alone memes. It strikes a nerve with everyone who has those ‘lonely’ moments. Just take a look at them and laugh at the fact that there are millions of people out in the world who feel the same way as you do and can joke about it.
It is not just a meme, it is an icon, a symbol which sends a strong message that even if you are not with anyone, you can still laugh and be happy!
