Acknowledging the profound role of television in influencing children’s health, Walt Disney Company has announced that it will not be advertising junk-food programs on its network. And guess what, First Lady Michelle Obama has joined hands with the media giant in its anti-obesity campaign.
At present it is estimated that nearly one third of children are overweight are obese in the US. Walt Disney in collaboration with Mrs. Obama’s ‘Let’s Move’ initiative will try to promote healthy eating hallmarks through which this epidemic can be curbed.

Disney has also announced that it will be imposing strict new standards of advertising especially for food and beverage companies which spend up to $2 billion a year on their advertising aimed at young consumers. Michelle Obama has always been very proactive in criticizing junk food campaigns and is currently making press rounds for the promotion of her new cookbook, American Growth.

The book includes a variety of recipes based off the healthy vegetables grown in the White House garden. In her recent appearance on the Letterman Show, she also gave a few fun facts regarding gardening such as ‘In his lifetime, the average American will eat half a radish’ and many more.
With the help of its new effort Disney will not allow advertising during children’s programming on its network of foods that fail to meet minimum nutrition requirements.
