With the world preparing for Easter, we bring you a selection photos from various parts of the globe. They range from traditional celebrations in certain countries to others parts of the world where people are planning symbolic protests against their government.

The procession, which has been held for five centuries, is a unique ceremony marked by solemn piety and serves as an important expression of religious and cultural identity of Hvar islanders. Luka has waited for over 20 years for his turn to carry the 10-kg (22 lbs) cross along a 25-km (16-mile) route passing through six villages. In each village, Luka would stop in the local church to pray together with the rest of the procession.
